The administration of Governor Ben Ayade has ordered everyone to stop mining illegally in Cross River, particularly in the local governments of Akamkpa and Biase.
Alfred Mboto, the Governor’s office’s permanent secretary for special services, said this in a statement on Thursday in Calabar.
According to the statement, the Local Government Areas’ safety and security are at risk from unlawful mining.
The announcement read: “Governor Prof. Ben Ayade of Cross River State has immediately banned all unlawful mining activities in the state. Security agencies have been ordered to shut down all illicit mining operations, detain and charge everyone participating in these activities, and seal all unlawful mining locations.
